All About Hawaii, With Videos and Photos
I came to Hawaii years ago, fell in love with it, and made this beautiful paradise my home. I love and enjoy Hawaii for many reasons, I wanted to share with you the great aspects of Hawaii living, the neighborhoods, the climate and more.
In Hawaii, it seems every day is a holiday, it is very festive place, and we have numerous Hawaiian holidays unique to our Islands.
For example, June 11 is King Kamehameha day, a holiday honoring the great first monarch that united the Islands. He ruled from 1795 to 1819.
Then we have Prince Kuhio Day, March 26. This is the birthday of the Prince, a member of the royal family and Hawaii’s first delegate to the US congress.
Admission Day is the third Friday in August. Hawaii was admitted as the 50th State in the Union on August 21, 1959.
We have so many other occasions to celebrate, and have parades, dances and
fun. These additional dates are not holidays, but are celebrated:
The Chinese New Year Jan/Feb
Japanese Girl’s day 3/3
Buddha’s birthday 4/8
Father Damien Day 5/10
Samoan Flag Day second Saturday in August
Aloha Week Sept/October
Pearl Harbor day Dec. 7
The people of Hawaii have been blessed with a magnificent natural environment, blue skies, clear ocean waters, white sandy beaches and majestic mountains.
Residents of Hawaii proudly bear a tradition known as the aloha spirit, it is reflected in generous habits of sharing and caring. Oahu is known as the gathering place, with its rich ethnic mix and cosmopolitan flavor. Honolulu is part of the Island of Oahu.

Information On Waikiki and Hawaii
Oahu is the largest of the Hawaiian Islands, the business, political, cultural and entertainment center of the pacific; Oahu has 112 miles of coastline, including two mile long Waikiki beach; Most of the population live in and around the City of Honolulu. Honolulu means “sheltered bay”. It is a very exciting place, the mention of Honolulu, or Waikiki is enough to convey a world of lively places, pristine white sandy beaches, tropical sunsets, hotels for every budget, night life, shopping, tours, brunch on the beach, restaurants for every taste and budget, and a lot more.
In the late 1800s, Waikiki was the vacation retreat for the Royalty, Kamehameha IV, Kamehameha V, Lunalilo, Kalakaua, Liliuokalani, all these royalty dignitaries maintained residences in the area, and lived carefree life, surfing, swimming, having canoe races and moonlight horseback riding.
Waikiki means “spouting water”, since Waikiki used to have rivers, duck farms and springs ; the Ala Wai canal was built in the 1920s to drain the area of its swamps and rivers, clearing the way for hotel construction boom; and Waikiki became a visitor destination. Waikiki is close to the slopes of Diamond Head, 500 acre Kapiolani Park, the Waikiki Aquarium, the Honolulu Zoo, night clubs, shopping with merchandise from all over the world and the most visited International marketplace, a shopper’s delight.
Aloha in Hawaii usually starts behind the wheel. Drivers rarely honk, because it is considered rude. People use hand signals and wave, sometimes they make the “shaka” sign to thank you. Other differences about driving in Hawaii is the speed limit, which is maximum 60 but in the city, average speed is about 20 miles an hour. Look out for pedestrians, we have a law protecting them, must give them time to cross the road. The peak commuting hours are from 6:00 am to 8:30 am and from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm. On an island, what’s the hurry? Take your time, enjoy the scenery and get to your destination safely.
In the next segment, I will be talking about the type of homes available in the Waikiki area. Whether you are buying as investor, a second home, or a prime residence, the choices are there from studio apartments, to large and spectacular PH’s.

Hawaii Photos and Videos and About a Condominium In Waikiki
Waikiki….The Place to be
I am going to be talking about condominiums in the Waikiki area. As I mentioned in my previous talk, there are studios, one, two and Penthouses (few buildings have 3 bedrooms). I will concentrate on the fee simple ownership (versus leasehold, where you are renting the land under the condominium, just like you rent a car, you pay monthly lease rent, and you may have to return it at the end of the lease to the land owner).
I will start with the Ilikai Apt Bldg, which consists of over 1000 units and commercial space. The Ilikai is at the entrance of Waikiki, it enjoys superior location. It is surrounded by outstanding dining, shopping and exciting entertainment. You can walk to the beach, bask in the fabulous Hawaiian sunsets, enjoy the torch lighting ceremony, the hula dancing, the music at Kuhio beach or stroll to the spectacular magic Island where you can swim, or just relax and watch the surfers catching the waves. Ala Moana shopping center is a short walk away, in addition to numerous other shopping opportunities in Waikiki and downtown.
The Ilikai, where a developer purchased the the hotel rooms and is now selling it as individual condominium units, after complete renovation. The studios space is generous, it is 500 sq ft, in addition to a lanai of approx. 120 sq ft. The Ilikai is shaped like Y, and the views vary, and so are the prices. For example, the resale and developer’s studios with full kitchen, completely furnished mountain view range from $399,000 to the high of $768,000. You will be surprised to find out that there are one bedrooms in the resale market which are the same size as the studios. The reason is that this is the way all the bedrooms were before, and the developers converted the one bedrooms he owns to studios, same space, just more open feeling. The two bedrooms interior is 1000 sq ft, two lanais about 240 sq ft, can range from $599,000(no view) to $2,150,000 for a PH unit, which is about 2378 sq ft, in addition to 120 sq ft lanai.
I am highlighting the best priced two bedrooms with west facing, everlasting
ocean views and priceless sunsets. It is completely furnished with designer
furniture, completely renovated and ready to move in and enjoy. Apartment
2010, 2/2 is on the market for $999,000, for more details, please e-mail Kay

Discover the secret of owning and enjoying oceanfront home in Hawaii’s most prestigious neighborhoods at affordable price
The exceptional high-end properties in Hawaii remain stable, holding up better than expected and in high demand. The supply for oceanfront Kahala homes as well as Diamond Head properties is somewhat limited, and currently available homes asking prices range from $4,750,000 to the high of $12,950,000.
For a buyer that is going to use the Hawaii property as a second home, it makes more sense to explore the fractional ownership of homes, where you can purchase a property with other owners for a period of 60 days each. This allows home owners to plan their visits well in advance, year after year. Fractional residences seem to be the more sensible way for owning and enjoying a luxurious second home without being priced out of the ritzy type properties and neighborhoods.
The fractional home sales industry has been established in some resort markets such as aspen, Colorado and Lake Tahoe, as well as Canada and Caribbean. The concept is definitely in its infancy in Hawaii and is now presented to the home buyers and sellers. There is a move to educate the Real Estate Agents as well as the public about this option.
This is in no way a time share, you actually have a deed for the proportionate interest in the property. Fractional home owners may use their property during specific time frame per year personally, sharing it with family and friends, renting it out, or selling it.
It takes more effort and time to find six buyers agreeing on 60 day use periods. There are fewer lenders that would finance the fractional ownership. There is a management company to be established for the fractional property to take care of maintenance and any other agreed upon tasks at a fee shared by all six owners of record.
There is presently oceanfront estate available in 2-month fractional ownership, prices will range between $2,400,000 to $2,700,000. This property features indoor-outdoor elegance. It details exceptional design, pavilion lit up with fire pots, maid’s quarters. The formal entry hall opens up to a two story living room, which is open to the beachfront. The dining room, kitchen, family rooms are open style.
The upstairs master suite occupies the entire front area of the second floor, with spectacular views of the beach and she shoreline. I can provide photos for interested buyers. It is the only new oceanfront property available now in luxurious Kahala district.
